A long time ago I read an article in a magazine about the Scottish islands and the tough Atlantic climate that makes an imprint on culture and landscape up there. The whisky is obviously part of this culture and you can taste or smell a breeze of salty ocean air, the peaty soil and much more in it. According to the article the whisky is a sort of essence or distillate of that part of the country. Subsequently, I switched from drinking blended Scotch whisky to single malt whisky from the islands with the additional benefit of some vague imagery coming up with each sip.

When I heard that Scotland is well a mountain bike country – with MTB-centers and a law that opens any trail to bikes – it was clear that Scotland is a must-see destination for me. Mountain biking and whisky tasting: we will see how this combination will work out…
